SALT, not sugar...
I talk with many women who suffer from inner turmoil and insecurity about being liked by others. They are consumed with the fear of not being accepted and worry about how they are perceived.
So, they shrink themselves, conform, and dull their shine in hopes of fitting in. They make every attempt to be more palatable by diluting themselves to fit societal norms.
Unfortunately, they are still met with disappointment. After all of their efforts to water themselves down in hopes of being easily digestible to the masses, they still don't measure up.
Why, you ask?
Because they were never meant to be liked by everyone. They were created uniquely with special gifts and personalities in order to fulfill their purpose here on earth and make a difference in the lives of those they come in contact with.
They were called to be SALT, not sugar.
You see, everyone loves some sugar. It's nice enough, but it causes decay and doesn't do any of the transforming things salt does.
Salt heals, preserves, purifies, and reveals.
Salt was used to clean wounds. It stings, but it heals.
Salt preserves what compromise would allow to decay and purifies, preventing rot.
Salt reveals true taste.
If you're battling the decision of being sugar or salt, I want to encourage you to be true to yourself and who God created you to be. Because there will always be people who won't like you, no matter what you do. No matter how much you mask or deny your true identity, you still can't please everyone.
So, you might as well honor who you are in all of your authenticity, because you cannot outsource self-approval, and you are the one who has to live with yourself; dimming the light of who you are is never worth it. You end up in the dark.
However, once you start being true to yourself and showing up in the world for exactly who you are, comfortable in your own skin, something incredible happens. Your confidence builds, you honestly begin enjoying yourself, and you grow proud of who you are.
There will still be naysayers, but those who are meant for you will see you in all of your authenticity and appreciate what you bring to the table.
Be SALT.
If this reflects where you are and you’d like support walking in authenticity, I offer faith-based health and wellness coaching. I've shared the link in the comments.
“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden."
Matthew 5:13-14
