The Lord has been speaking to me for quite some time about the importance of the renewal of the mind for believers. As I look around at the condition of the church, I am grieved at its brokenness and feel heartache for its pain. I began asking the Lord to show me the significance of renewing our minds and to instruct me on how to share the reality of it while giving hope and encouragement.
Those who know me well know that I am a deep thinker and an avid researcher. This leads me to my next point. The Lord prompted me to do a bit of research on neuroplasticity and I discovered that the human brain can heal from pain and trauma through positive experiences and therapy.
Neuroplasticity allows the brain to form new connections and reorganize neuronal functions, which facilitates rapid adaptation and self-repair.
While examining brain scans of children who received love at home compared to those who lived without love and experienced trauma, one thing stood out to me. The brain scans of those who were unloved or traumatized displayed areas of darkness. Whereas, the scans of the children who received love at home showed bright red.
This observation made me think of the blood of Jesus and how His love brings light to every dark area of our lives including our past pain.
LOVE HEALS WOUNDS OF PAIN.
Upon further research, I looked at brain scans of adult patients who had severe PTSD versus those who had participated in therapy. Again, the scans of those who suffered from trauma showed pathways in the brain that were closed off and darkened, but after therapy, there were new brightened areas.
We truly can truly RENEW OUR MINDS just as the Word of God says.
I decided to take it a step further and look at the results of brain scans that were done on people before and during prayer. It was no surprise to me that there were measurable changes in brain activity and structure.
Specifically, during prayer, there was increased activity in the area associated with focus and attention and decreased activity in the area associated with a sense of self. These changes suggest that prayer can influence emotional regulation, enhance focus, and potentially alter our identity of how we see ourselves.
Now, if you are reading this and can relate to feeling unloved from childhood wounds, suffer from the pain of your past trauma, or feel broken, I am here to give you hope.
I am not a science expert, but here is what I know for sure: love heals the wounded soul and shines light on darkness. The blood of Jesus was shed to set the captives free, and there is hope for the broken to be made whole. The Bible is not just history, nor is it a metaphor. It is living, breathing, and sharper than any two-edged sword.
So, do yourself a favor and call out to the one with nail scars in His hands and the Healer will bend down to hear you and save you from your mess. Do not allow guilt or shame to keep you from calling upon His name. He is much more concerned with your future than your past.
Then, open the Bible and begin to read it for yourself. Meditate on the Word, and not only will your perception change, but apparently, your entire brain will too!

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2
And to be renewed in the spirit of your minds.
Ephesians 4:23
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
