Repentance Is Not Remorse

Repentance Is Not Remorse

July 25, 2022

Repentance is not the same as remorse. Repentance is not repeating a prayer out of guilt to relieve your conscience while choosing to continue to live like the world. True repentance comes from a change in heart posture that leads to complete submission to the will of God and a change in action by turning from sin. Ask the Lord to reveal anything in your heart that does not glorify Him, and remember that to fear Him is the beginning of wisdom. For narrow is the gate.

Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.

Matthew 3:8

Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

II Corinthians 7:9‭-‬10

In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”

Acts 17:30‭-‬31

Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” To those  who by persistence in doing good, seek glory, ho,nor, and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.

Romans 2:4‭-‬8

Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

Revelation 3:3

Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Matthew 7:14
